3. Data Center Skyscraper (3rd place)
Designed by Italian designers Valeria Mercuri and Marco Merletti, this skyscraper is inspired by our massive need for energy. But modern data centers constantly need to be cooled down, which results in a release of huge amounts of carbon, leaving a massive footprint. The solution is this skyscraper that doubles as a data center, where the power is clean (using renewable energy sources) and the costs are low. The proposal is to place this skyscraper between the United States and Europe, and use Iceland’s proximity to the Artic to naturally cool down the data center.
